Return of the Challange Cup
Three Rivers and Stock Book Manor are sister clubs and for a number of years played each other in a friendly match for a trophy called the Challenge Cup. For some reason this abruptly stopped some 16 years ago.

However, on Saturday the 29th March to two clubs once again met to take up the challenge. Even the sun made a return for what was a great day for both clubs, especially as the competition founder Ted Langley was able to be there for to present the cup and awards.

The match was made more special as our resident MC’s; Gary Ambrose and Derek Briggs were there to announce the players on the 1st and 10th holes to get the match underway.

The match format consisted of pairs and singles, with both the ladies and mens sections represented.

Despite some very close matches, sadly Stick Brook Manor managed to gain the edge and eventually run out 329 to 307 winners on Stableford point to retain the trophy.

Something Amusing
Abu Dhabi and back
Earlier in March, our Club Captain, Peter White, our Vice Captain, Pat Phillips and Bryan Sweeting plus a few of their friend ventured off to Abu Dhabi for some sunshine and golf. With fabulous hotels, fantastic golf courses and warm weather (30 c at this time of year) who could blame them.

They spent 6 nights at the Hilton Hotel at Yas Island and played a couple of rounds at the iconic Yas Links course (the first true links course in the Middle East region) and the Abu Dhabi National course in the new Three Rivers team colours.

Whilst playing Yas Links the starter informed us that our own Josh Read had played the week before in a practice round with Jordan Smith.

Charity Quiz Night
Our joint Captain’s Charity Quiz took place on Friday 21st March to help raise funds for their named charity The Lennox Children’s Cancer Fund. Over 100 members and guests come to take part making up 11 teams of various sizes.

Nigel Smee took up the mantle of Quiz master and set 6 category rounds ranging from current affairs to sport. Luckily, I guess to save potential embarrassment there was no round about golf. Team scoring was very close throughout the evening with a handful of teams still in contention for bragging right at the end of the evening.

Jan Tindale’s team, SSC (Stone Sailing Club) being declared the eventual winners. Well done Jan and co.

During the evening further funds were generated via a well supported raffle of donated prizes. By close of play an incredible £1,050 was raised.
Both our Club Captain, Peter White and our Ladies Captain, Kathy Lane pass on their thanks to everyone who came along, who helped with the organization and who donated raffle prizes
