The Club plays in a number of county, and other competitions against other clubs.  Different competitions cater for men, ladies and seniors. You don't need to be an elite golfer to represent the Club as the competitions we enter cover all levels of skill from low to higher handicap players.  To represent the Club in these competitions you must of course be a current member of the Club, hold current and up-to-date WHS handicap and be eligible in accordance with the various rules set down by the competition administrators.

Leslie Wood
This is an Essex County competition for golfers with a Handicap Index of 6.0 and above. While there is no upper handicap limit the fact that all matches are played off scratch inevitably favours those golfers with an index close to 6.0.

The format for the competition is morning foursomes match play followed by afternoon singles match play. Depending on the draw teams will play either at home or away.

Clubs who are knocked out in round one are automatically entered into the Leslie F Wood Plate competition. Again this is for golfers with a playing index of 6.0 or above but the format is 18 holes singles match play, off scratch with half the team playing at home and half playing away

Norman Plum
The Norman Plum is a matchplay Better Ball knockout competition.

The competition is for players with a handicap index between 11.0 and 24.0. Those players with a handicap index of 17.5 or less are placed in a separate pool from those with a handicap index greater than17.6.

Matches are played home and away on the same day/time with 3 pairs at home while 3 pairs away. Both home and away teams must include at least 2 players from each handicap pools.

Curry Cup
The Curry Cup is a matchplay competition playing foursomes in the morning and singles in the afternoon.

The competition is for players with a handicap index between 0.0 and 18.0. Six players must have a handicap index of 10.0 or less.

Initially played on a small league basis playing 2 home and 2 away matches before changing to a knockout competition for the semi finals and finals. The Jubilee Cup is independent of the Essex Golf Union.

John Day Trophy
The John Day is a matchplay knockout team competition playing singles matches.

The competition is for player over 55 years old and with a handicap index between 11.0 and 24.0. Players with a higher handicap can play but they will have to play off 24.00.

Jubilee Cup
The Jubilee Cup is a matchplay competition playing a mixture of singles matches (playing off scratch) and ball better ball matches.

The competition is for players with a handicap index between 10.5 and 20.0.

Initially played on a small league basis playing at least 2 home and 2 away matches before changing to a knockout competition for the semi finals and finals. The Jubilee Cup is independent of the Essex Golf Union.

Essex Seniors
The Essex Seniors Championship matchplay knockout competition playing singles matches.

The competition is for players over 55 years of age and a handicap index of 15.0 and below.

The current team Captains are Bryan Sweeting & Mark Stock.
Harris Bowl
The Harris Bowl is a matchplay competition for Ladies playing singles matches.
The competition is for players with a
a handicap of under 36.4 Although players with a higher handicap can play but with 36.4 max.

Initial matches are played in a league round before going to knockout.
