Winner of the J & B Handicap Trophy Dave Remington (L) being presented with the Cup by Club Captain, John Hatfield.
Saturday 19 September 63 members took part in the Club Championship. On the day 4 trophies are up for grabs
: the Scratch Cup and the J & B Handicap Trophy for players with a handicap of 16 or lower; the Brent Walker
Cup for players with a handicap above 16, players; the Rabbits Cup for those completing for the Brent Walker
Cup who had a handicap of more than 21.. The winner of the Scratch Cup is crowned Club Champion.
Although the day was bright and pleasant; gusting wind speeds
approaching 25 mph, hard fairways and very fast greens made play
difficult. Good scores were hard to find. It was however great to see that
most enjoyed the day and stayed behind on the patio for after match
analysis while waiting the scores to be checked and the winners
declared. Those who stayed were respectful of social distancing.
Competition for the Scratch Cup dropped away as the matches
progressed. Coming down the last few holes Mike Harding was out in
front. He finished with a gross score of 73, some 5 shots ahead of his
nearest rival. His score card showed an impressive 4 birdies and 9 pars.
Competition for the J & B Handicap Trophy was tighter with Dave
Remington, who was runner-up in the Scratch Cup, claiming the trophy
with a score of 72 nett, a couple of shots ahead of the pursuing pack.
Competition for the Brent Walker Cup was much closer with several
players posting score in the high 30s. The best score however was
posted by Joe Scollen with 40 pts. Carlo Polironi won the Rabbits Cup
with a score of 37 pts. Unfortunately both Joe and Carlo had already left
before the presentation. No doubt we will catch up with them in the not
too distant future to present them with their trophies.
